Pharma study shows changing challenges

Pharmaceutical industry must prepare for disruption faster.

This is the conclusion of the study "Disrupting the Pharma Industry - How to Master the Challenge of Change" which we conducted together with the long-time AbbVie manager Dr. Stefan Simianer.

For our study, 24 top managers from large pharmaceutical companies were interviewed. The results show that five essential core competencies will ensure the future success of pharmaceutical companies. According to the study, crucial to success are the ability to react quickly to changes in the betting situation, follow the right trends, enter into successful partnerships to strengthen one's market position, and employ skilled professionals and use available data to become more efficient and successful.

"The results of our study show that the pharmaceutical industry needs to prepare for the challenges of the digital future. We would like to encourage the industry to take the opportunities and risks of digitalization seriously and take appropriate action."

Although large pharmaceutical companies are aware of the importance of data-driven business models, a lack of data infrastructure, data security and regulatory barriers make it difficult to develop the new data-driven business models.

However, this is precisely where Stefan Simianer sees a need for action and explains that pharmaceutical companies need to be faster and more flexible in order to remain competitive and successful.
