As a Villa Aurora Fellow in 2023, sponsored by the KunstSalon Cologne, artist Nieves de la Fuente Gutiérrez spent 3 months at the Villa Aurora in Los Angeles. During this stay, she made several trips to the Salton Sea, a large man-made body of water in California. 

While the lake was considered a vacation paradise in the 1950s, since the 1970s it has caused respiratory illnesses due to its toxic emissions. 

In her work, Nieves de la Fuente Gutiérrez addresses the ecological impacts caused by the increasing toxicity of the Salton Sea. 

The artist expresses the results of her research through 3D printing, film, and photography, using digital installations, as well as virtual and augmented reality. 

At Santiago Advisors, we have followed Nieves' development closely, especially since she designed the Santiago Art Edition 2021 for us, and we are thrilled with her artistic journey.
